The UCOTA groups involved in the production and selling of handcrafts, constitute for 99% out of women. They are located in rural impoverished communities that depend on subsistence farming and have very low income generating opportunities.
The crafts produced by UCOTA members are of different types, depending on the locally available raw materials as well as the traditional skills and culture in their areas. The handcrafts range from beautiful basketry, tie and dye, hadmade paper products, tablemats and aprons, jewellery, paper mache art to woodcarvings.
